Sterling Heights, according to the FBI uniform crime report, is regarded as one of the safest communities in America. So it's not used to a sudden spate of murders.

In the past two weeks, three people have been murdered, creating uneasiness in town.

"We have good reason to believe the victims were specifically targeted.  And I want to reassure the community they can feel safe in Sterling Heights," Mayor Michael Taylor tells Jim Kiertzner of WXYZ.

In 2016, the city had no murders. Until late November, the city had recorded no murders in 2017.

The victims, according to the The Macomb Daily, are:

Sufian “Samuel” Saba. 51, who was found shot Nov. 27 in Laith’s Candy Land, a wholesaler of candy and dry foods made in the Middle East and Europe. He was an employee.

Laith Anki,  26, was found also shot to death Dec. 2 in Laith’s. A nephew of Saba, he discovered his uncle’s body. The homicides are related and that the two men were targeted, detectives say.

Kiah Hopson, a licensed practical nurse, was found shot to death Saturday -- six days before her 25th birthday -- in the parking lot of Parkside East Apartments near Van Dyke Avenue and 18-1/2 Mile Road.
