Basketball Hall of Famer Dennis Rodman, who was part of the Detroit Pistons Bad Boys era more than two decades ago, was arrested Saturday night in California and charged with driving under the influence, CNN reports.

Rodman was pulled over for a traffic violation in Newport Beach, according to police Lt. Rachel Johnson. The 56-year-old former athlete failed a Breathalyzer test at the scene. He was jailed and released Sunday.

Rodman has "struggled openly with alcoholism the past 17 years," his longtime agent, Darren Prince, tells CNN. "He's been dealing with some major personal issues the last month and I know it's time he checks back into a rehab center to work through them."

Rodman played for the Pistons from 1986-93. He last played in the NBA in 2000 for the Dallas Mavericks.
