Tired of Detroit Auto Show, but Love Cars? Come to 'Sketchbattle'

January 15, 2018, 8:09 AM

If you find the North American International Auto Show to be the same old-same old, here's an alternative: The Sketchbattle.

Jason Torchinsky of Jalopnik writes:

If you’re anywhere near Detroit this coming week and love cars but are sick of all the usual car stuff, boy are you in luck. The Sketchbattle is back, and it’s happening at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, January 16! Sketchbattle is auto design twisted into a blood sport, and you don’t want to miss it.

I’ve been to two Sketchbattles so far, and they’re always a blast. You get to watch real design professionals, many of whom work for major automakers, come up with novel ideas and render them on paper, under severe time crunches. It’s exciting, and the results are always fun.

The winner of the downtoiwn event, presented by the BASF Corp., gets $2,500.

It's at St. Andrew's Hall, 431 E. Congress, at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 at the door. Students pay $5 in advance, $7 at the door.
