Rod Rock, the superintendent for Clarkston Community Schools, is now the former superintendent.
On Sunday, he resigned after notifying the school board that he had an “inappropriate relationship” with a 19-year-old graduate of the district, Jennifer Chambers of The Detroit News reports.
Elizabeth Egan, Board of Education president, posts an explanation Monday morning. Rock "indicated that the relationship started as a friendship and became inappropriate only after the now 19-year-old graduated," she says.
"Dr. Rock felt the nature of this relationship compromised his ability to effectively serve as Superintendent of Schools. During a special board meeting last night, the board accepted Dr. Rock’s resignation, effective immediately."
Shawn Ryan is appointed interim superintendent, the district posts. He has been deputy superintendent since 2010.
