Larry Nassar -- or Lawrence Gerard Nassar, inmate #21504-040 as he's known by the U.S. Bureau of Prisons -- has a new home.
Nassar, who pleaded guilty to federal charges of child pornography and to sexually abusing female patients in two state cases, is in the high-security U.S. Penitentiary in Tucson. It has 1,536 inmates.
Nassar, a 54-year-old former Michigan State University doctor, will first serve his 60-year sentence in federal prison. His release date is listed as March 23, 2069. Should he still be alive, he'd return to Michigan to serve long terms assuring lifetime imprisonment.
The Arizon site is the nation’s only high-security federal facility with a sex offender management program, according to Ralph Miller, a retired Bureau of Prisons employee who specialized in that designation, reports Kim Kozlowski of The Detroit News.
Nassar will be surrounded by 70-80 percent of inmates who are sex offenders, the prison tells the paper.
Inmates who sexually assault children often are attack targets in a general prison population.
