February 13, 2018, 7:28 AM

The Detroit Zoo will create a Great Lakes Nature Center in Macomb County.

It'll focus on educational and environmental issues involving the Great Lakes and have a number of aquatic features, including live displays of fish and wildlife, reports Mitch Hotts of The Macomb Daily. Three locations are under consideration.

"It's a big deal," County Executive Mark Hackel tells the paper. "We’ve been waiting for something like this for quite a while."

The Detroit Zoo also operates the Belle Isle Nature Center on Belle Isle State Park in Detroit.
