The push for more hotels in Detroit continues.
The latest is a 100-room boutique hotel slated for the former Standard Accident Insurance Co. building at 640 Temple St. in Detroit near Masonic Temple, formerly owned by Wayne County, Kirk Pinho of Crain's Detroit Business reports. Developers also plan to have 70 apartment units there.
The new project component is revealed in a brownfield redevelopment plan presented to Detroit City Council last week. Construction is expected to begin in the spring or summer and take up to 20 months to complete, according to the brownfield plan.

Previous plans for the Albert Kahn-designed building, which opened in 1920, included more than 100 apartments ranging from 850 to 2,000 square feet plus about 10,000 square feet of retail space in new construction to the west of the 190,000-square-foot building.
More recent plans for the site one block west of the Masonic Temple include the hotel on the second, third and fourth floors, in addition to about 70 apartments on floors five through eight, said Christos Moisides, one of the developers on the project.
"In the sub-basement, we have a 4,000-square-foot live music venue and a lower-level bank vault lounge and then a first-floor restaurant," he said. "We have some historic, really cool hotel suites that will be on the third floor overlooking Cass Park, and a rooftop pool."
Three hotels are expected to open in downtown Detroit this year, including the Shinola Hotel on Woodward Avenue near the former Hudson's site.
