Flowers of Vietnam, the popular little place at 4430 West Vernor Highway in Southwest Detroit, first opened in 2016 on weekends only. Then last March 2017, the Vietnamese restaurant closed for renovations.

Now it's open again and thriving inside Vernor Coney Island, reports Brenna Houck of Eater Detroit, who writes:

When things are going well, small tweaks to a recipe or the layout of the restaurant can result in a wildly different atmosphere for guests. Owners can become wary risks and messing with a good thing. Fortunately, chef George Azar and his partners took that calculated risk to comeback in a space deserving of Flowers of Vietnam’s caliber of cooking.

The updated space is an improvement on — rather than a complete rethinking of — the original restaurant with a menu that offers more refined echoes of its predecessor.

On Jan. 21, the restaurant posts on Facebook:

After the busiest opening weekend ever, y’all officially ran us out of food (and drink). We’ll be closed today to catch up and see you this Wednesday for service. Sorry, but not that sorry.
