Online Threats Shut Wayne-Westland Schools Today

Taking no chances in wake of the Valentine's Day mass shoot in Florida, Wayne-Westland Community Schools canceled classes Tuesday due to concerns about online threats.

The district and law enforcement as well as county and state officials spent Monday investigating multiple social media posts, Mark Hicks of The Detroit News reports.

All classes were closed "to ensure the safety and security of our children, staff and buildings,” Superintendent Shelley Holt says in a statement. She doesn't describe the messages, which she says authorities are working "to address and stabilize."
