Shameful. Heartbreaking. Criminal.

Former Detroit Emergency Medical Technician Ann Marie Thomas was found guilty Wednesday in Detroit's 36th District Court of willful neglect charges for failing to respond to a call for an eight-month-old girl who died nearly three years ago on the city’s northwest side, Orlandar Brand-Williams of The Detroit News reports.

Sentencing is set for April 12. She faces up to one year in jail.

Thomas was parked a couple minutes away when the family called 911 for help on May 30, 2015 in the 19900 block of Glastonbury Street. The baby had stopped breathing and later died.

WDIV cites city records saying that Thomas refused to go to the home, saying family members could get emotional while EMT are trying to revive the child. She stopped the vehicle en route to the home. She was less than a mile away.

A back up unit had to respond.

She was fired in 2015.
