Duggan to Describe School Partnerships in State of the City Speech Tonight
March 6th, 2018, 7:02 AM
In his first State of the City address of term two, Mayor Mike Duggan will focus Tuesday night on new partnerships with Detroit schools and crime fighting tactics, two key issues that could determine the sustainability of a comeback for the city.
Duggan, who will speak at Western High School in Southwest Detroit at 7 p.m., wants to ensure that families in Detroit have access to good options when it comes to education, Alexis Wiley, Duggan’s chief of staff, tells Niquel Terry of The Detroit News.
“One of the biggest themes he is really focusing on is what kind of city are we building for our children,” Wiley said. “He’s been working for a long time at how we can make a meaningful difference.”
Duggan also plans to discuss spreading crime-fighting tactics through precincts across Detroit.
The speech will be livestreamed at Facebook, the city's website and on municipal cable channels, as shown at right.
