Rev. Jon Wehrle, who earned $42,000 a year as pastor of an Okemos church,  built a grand, 11,300-square-foot mansion worth about $3 million in the central Michigan  community of Williamston, near Lansing.

Now, Wehrle, 67, faces six counts of embezzlement for allegedly stealing from the church. He is scheduled to go to trial April 9 in Ingham County Circuit Court, reports Francis X. Donnelly of The Detroit News.

Authorities charge that he stole from the Sunday collection plate for at least 19 years, and an audit found $5 million missing from church coffers. He was fired from his job and charged last year.

The house is impressive: two stories, stone façade, eight bedrooms, 12 bathrooms, a library, wine cellar, indoor pool and wood-paneled elevator.
