Officials Think They Can Oust Macomb Clerk Karen Spranger

Macomb County lawyers will try on Monday in federal court in Port Huron to convince a judge that County Clerk Karen Spranger lied in order to run office. If they win, she'll lose her 109,000 a year salary, ending her tumultuous reign which began after her 2016 election.

Bill Laitner of the Detroit Free Press writes: 

Political bigwigs from both parties have said for much of the last year that they'd like to oust the union-flouting, employee-terminating, lawsuit-slinging, Tea-Party Republican Spranger. Now, they'll take what they say is their best shot, at the hearing in Port Huron.

After assembling evidence for months, "we can show beyond a reasonable doubt” that Spranger lied about where she lived when she filed to run for clerk, Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel said.

“This is really the best way to end this – in the courts,” Hackel tells the Freep. “I don’t like overturning the will of the voters, ever, but this is a very unusual situation."
