On Tuesday, Marc Stein of the New York Times reported that the Detroit Pistons were interested in bringing in former star Chauncey Billups to work with team vice chairman Arn Tellem in a "revamped front office."

But the Pistons call the report false, and Billups himself tried knocking it down on Tuesday afternoon on ESPN's "The Jump:"

"It's 100 percent false. I haven't spoken to anybody about (it)."

Rumors have been swirling this year that Stan Van Gundy, hired as Pistons president and coach in 2014, might lose one or both of those positions if the team fails to make the playoffs, which is likely at this point.

Van Gundy is dismissive of it all, according to the Detroit Free Press.

Owner Tom Gores "will make a decision at the end of the year,” Van Gundy said before the Pistons faced the Suns in Phoenix. “The reports don’t mean a damn thing. The only thing that matters is the decision Tom makes at the end of the year and that doesn’t matter right now. It only matters at the end of the year so the only thing that matters right now is trying to win a game tonight.”

Billups last year turned down the general manager's job with Dan Gilbert's Cleveland Cavaliers.
