Buy me some brisket and a cauliflower snack,
I don't care if I never get back
Depending on what you hunger for, this could be a tasty, surprising baseball season.
If you crave a winning team, your appetite likely will be unfulfilled in Detroit. But if imaginative concession food can help redeem any ballpark visit, get ready to chow down on new snacks at Comerica Park.
Local media sampled previews Friday afternoon, including corn muffins stuffed with brisket and cheddar, caprese salad, Nutella egg rolls and huge ice cream-donut sandwiches -- as tweets from three attendees show below.
"A true rarity here at the Tigers preseason tastefest: three dozen reporters and no complaining," Neal Rubin of The Detroit News tweets from what he also calls "taste-a-palooza."
Before bellying up, Rubin posts a preview of the preview:
There's the ultimate Southern burger, with jalapeno pimento cheese, crispy fried green tomatoes, lettuce and country ground mustard.
From various other compass points, Comerica Park will offer a New Orleans-style muffaletta sandwich, an Italian grinder, a wet burrito Caprese salad and Buffalo cauliflower, which is exactly what it sounds like — cauliflower bites tossed in spicy red buffalo sauce, accompanied by celery sticks and blue cheese dipping sauce.
[Also] pimento cheese and pretzels, a cheese blend served with pretzel crisps, and the nacho burger, topped with cheddar cheese, cotija cheese, tortilla chips, salsa and jalapenos on a brioche bun.
The sweet egg rolls, stuffed with Nutella or apple pie filling, are $6.50 for two, Kurt Nagl writes at Crain's. A jumbo ice cream-cake donut combo also is $6.50.

VERDICT: The Brisket and Cheddar Stuffed Cornbread Muffin (smoked brisket, cheddar cheese and jalapeño peppers baked into a corn muffin) at Comerica Park was damn good. I picked off the peppers. Not my thing. pic.twitter.com/NqaSYPgzon

This may be the low-key favorite at Comerica Park this year: a brisket corn muffin. All the bbq-related flavors in one easy package. #DetroitTigers pic.twitter.com/nXIARppfh0
