"Star Wars and the Power of Costume" is here for 19 weeks from May 20 to Sept. 30. (Members' preview events are Friday and Saturday.)

It examines the process of costume design for outfits in the first seven films of the saga — from Queen Amidala’s lavish gowns to Darth Vader’s imposing black armor.

"Explore the artistry of the world’s most recognized cinematic costumes, including Queen Amidala, Chewbacca, X-wing pilots, Rey, and droids, including C-3PO and R2-D2," an announcement says.

This special exhibit isn't part of the free entry deal for Metro Detroiters, so here's what it costs:

  • Weekdays: $19 adults, $7 youths ($14 for adult tickets for Tri-County residents)
  • Weekends: $24 adults, $7 youths ($19 for adult tickets for Tri-County residents)

♦ Details and tickets are here.
