Plans for new boutique hotels keep popping up in Detroit. Developers and investors have a lot of faith in Detroit's comeback.

Construction for a West Elm Hotel in Midtown Detroit is expected to begin next year on Woodward Avenue and be complete by 2020, reports Kirk Pinho of Crain's Detroit Business.

Detroit is part of a six-city expansion into lodging by the Brooklyn-based furniture brand, which has no hotels yet. The others will be in Minneapolis, Indianapolis, Portland, Oakland, Calif., and Savannah, Ga.

The Roxbury Group of Detroit signs an agreement to develop the property at Woodward and Eliot Street on roughly seven acres in an area called South of Mack Avenue, or SOMA, across from Whole Foods. It will have about 135 rooms, West Elm Hotels says at its site. The hotel will be next to one of its strores.

West Elm positions hypes the Detroit hotel as "highly localized," with "locally sourced dining and unique designs from emerging area artists."
