Updat, 4:05 p.m. Wednesday: The Tigers could have ended up tied for first place in their division with Cleveland today after a Comerica Park game.
But that was not to be. The Tigers lost 6-0, pushing them two games out of first.
The upside is that the Tigers are playing in a weak division, so anything can happen.

This is the year of low expectations for Tigers' fans. A lot of the top talent was traded away in the past two years, including slugger J.D. Martinez and pitching ace Justin Verlander.
But here it is, in mid-May, and the team has just beat Cleveland two nights in a row -- and is justy one game out of first place.
It may not be saying much in the weak Central Division, where the first-place Cleveland Indians have a losing record of 20-21, but still, it's a pleasant surprise that the team is competitive. Yes, the Tigers also have a losing record of 19-22, but the team is in a battle for first.
Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports on Tuesday's game, when the Tigers beat the Indians 9-8:

“Absolutely,” said Nick Castellanos, who returned from a two-game absence (finger) and delivered his fourth home run of the year. “Anytime we have a win like this, it continues to build and to reassure us that we can do it. We can do it. Just keep feeding the beast.”
