Avalon Bakery Keeps Rising: Cafe Set for Ilitch Business School

June 13, 2018, 7:10 AM

To make more dough, so to say, Detroit-based bakery Avalon International Breads keeps expanding its city presence.

The company is opening a cafe and takeout station inside the new Wayne State University Mike Ilitch School of Business along Woodward Avenue, several steps from Little Caesars Arena, Annalise Frank of Crain's Detroit Business reports. The bakery plans to open by late August, when the fall semester starts.

The 700-square-foot location will have a cafe counter, around 30 seats and retail sales, with public access from Woodward Avenue and from inside the school, owner Jackie Victor says.

In the city, Avalon has the original shop on Willis, off of Cass, and has since added a restaurant on Woodward Avenue in downtown Detroit, another on West Grand Blvd. in the New Center area and one at its main bakehouse off of Gratiot, just north of downtown. It also has a shop in Ann Arbor.
