The Detroit Regional Chamber’s Political Action Committee on Thursday announced its endorsment of Republican Lt. Gov. Brian Calley and Democrat Gretchen Whitmer for each major party's gubernatorial nomination.
“As we did with the bipartisan gubernatorial debate, the Chamber PAC wants to help Michigan elect the candidates that will be best for the state and its communities,” says Brad Williams, vice president of Government Relations for the Detroit Regional Chamber, in a statement.
Some may question the idea of Calley carrying on the legacy of Gov. Rick Snyder, considering the taint of the Flint water crisis. Nonetheless, here's what the business group says about the Republican candidate:
“Lt. Gov. Brian Calley is in the best position to carry on the legacy and continuity of Gov. Rick Snyder,” said Williams. “He has been a leader on causes that matter to business such as Detroit’s municipal bankruptcy and properly funding our dreadful roads, earning the confidence of the Chamber PAC.”
On Whitmer, it says:

“Former state Sen. Gretchen Whitmer has a proven track record of convening leaders to solve tough problems for Michigan communities. Her support and understanding of infrastructure investment, growing the Michigan economy by ensuring Michiganders have a good job, and advocating for improved education make her the best Democratic option,” said Hank Cooney, chairman of the Chamber PAC Board.
The Chamber also endorses Sen. Debbie Stabenow for re-election, along with Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel and Wayne County Executive Warren Evans.
