After 19 years in downtown Royal Oak, Andiamo has closed.
The rising popularity of the dining scene in Detroit and Ferndale had hurt Andiamo for the last six years, Andiamo Group president and CEO Joe Vicari tells Joe Guillen of the Detroit Free Press. "Closing parking right behind us was really the last nail in the coffin," he says.
An office building will replace a large city lot behind Andiamo and other Main Street businesses.
Rising rents have pushed out some independent businesses in downtown Royal Oak in recent years, changing the city's character and making it feel less hip.
Adiamo still operates eight other restaurants in Michigan and two outside the state.
