Detroit Lions Are Near Last in Value in NFL

Many many years of losses and failing to make the playoffs take a toll on a team's worth.

That explains why the Detroit Lions aren't on Forbes magazine's annual list of the world’s 50 most valuable sports teams.

Our city's franchise is among just three NFL teams not listed, reports Carlos Monarrez of the Detroit Free Press. The Lions join the Cincinnati Bengals and the Buffalo Bills. Forbes puts the Lions' worth at $1.7 billion, the second-least valuable. The Buffalo Bills are last at $1.6 billion.

The Dallas Cowboys top the list at $4.8 billion.

The Red Wings and Tigers also did not make the top 50 list. But Tigers' owner Marian Ilitch makes Forbes’ list of richest team owners, ranking 18th with a net worth of $5.2 billion.
