Councilman Matthew Seely: "This circus . . . needs to be addressed." (Official photo)

Grosse Pointe Shores Councilman Matthew Seely is under fire for posting a Facebook meme that essentially mocks California Professor Christine Blasey Ford, who has accuses U.S. Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexually assaulting her when they were in high school.

One progressive advocacy group, Progress Michigan, calls the posting "disgusting" and "dehumanizing" and wants Seely to resign, Tresa Baldas writes in the Detroit Free Press.

The meme at the center of the controversy shows a woman consoling another woman with the text reading:

“I’m so sorry that bad man touched you inappropriately. Let’s wait 30 or 40 years . . . until he runs for office . . . against a Democrat!”

Seely tells the Freep he has no plans to resign. He ays he's done no wrong and only wants to “provoke thought and debate” involving Ford's accusations.

“This circus that’s going on with Judge Kavanaugh is really a sad testimony of where we have gone politically and it needs to be addressed,” Seely tells the paper.
