Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette, who has kept a high profile in the Flint water crisis, is investigating another case that's bound to generate plenty of press.

His office has launched an investigation into alleged sex abuse and assault of children by Catholic priests at all seven dioceses in Michigan, reports WOOD-TV of Grand Rapids.

Schuette's office started the investigation in August, iut says, and alerted the station last Friday by partially denying a Freedom of Information Act request. The office rejected the request for documented complaints involving 13 priests, saying the information is part of an open investigation launched last month.

On Friday, Schuette's office posted:

The Michigan Department of Attorney General has determined that a full and complete investigation of what happened within the Catholic Church is required. This investigation is and will continue to be independent, thorough, transparent, and prompt. My department and this investigation will find out who knew what, and when.

Schuette, a Republican, is running for governor against Gretchen Whitmer.
