Video: Assistant Principal Suspended After Referring to Cheer Squad as 'Strippers'

October 17, 2018, 8:03 AM

Angela Leach, an assistant principal at Farmington Harrison High School in Farmington Hills, has been suspended for saying last month that the cheerleading squad's routine during a pep rally was inappropriate and that the girls looked like strippers.

Some parents think the remarks involving the mostly black cheer squad were racist, reports Mara MacDonald of WDIV..  Other parents saw it as inappropriate, but not racial.

"I just want to respectfully say to all of you that the denial of of racist or the racial bias should be an embarrassment,” Mabel Fox, who had two children go through the district, said during a Farmington School Board meeting Tuesday night.

“I think this has turned into an 'everyone is guilty now no matter what' kind of era,” says current Harrison parent Heidi Schmidt. “I see it in our country, and I’m sad to see it come to our school district.”

The assistant principal has apologized.
