Dino Bucci, a central figure in the ongoing FBI public corruption probe in Macomb County has resigned from his position on the Macomb Township Board of Trustees.

Besides serving on the board, Bucci worked as the number two guy for Tony Marrocco at public works.

Bucci, who submitted a letter to the board, tried to frame the move as a retirement, but the township board is calling it a resignation, Mara MacDonald of WDIV reports.

Bucci faces federal charges of extortion, bribery, mail fraud, embezzlement and money laundering.

He's accused of embezzling tens of thousands of dollars from the Township as well as using his two Macomb County government positions to line his own pockets in pay-to-play schemes.

In September, columnist Chad Selweski wrote of Bucci in Deadline Detroit:

Dino Bucci, who’s in line to become the most infamous crooked politician in recent Macomb County history, depending on the outcome of the many criminal indictments he faces, is still hanging on to public office despite the best efforts by his constituents and colleagues to give him the boot.

Since he was hit with 18 criminal charges by the feds at the height of the Macomb County corruption scandal last year -- indictments ranging from extortion and money laundering to bribery and embezzlement involving public contracts -- Bucci was summarily ousted as the county’s deputy public works commissioner.

But he maintains his second government post as an elected member of the Macomb Township board.
