About 150 people partook in the March for Black Women on Woodward Saturday and gathered for speeches at the Spirit of Detroit Plaza next to City Hall in downtown Detroit.
It was a sister event to marches in Washington, D.C., and New York City and was organized by local activist Jazmine Middlebrooks to raise awareness of issues facing black women today in America.
Speakers condemned the Detroit Police Department’s Green Light program for "racialized state surveillance," called for respect and inclusion for the LGBTQIA community and sharply attacked the Trump administration for what what was described as hostile policies toward marginalized peoples.
