When Jayru Campbell was the star quarterback at Detroit's Cass Tech High School, many people knew of him, but for the wrong reasons.

First, he was arrested for body slamming a Cass Tech security guard in January 2014. Then that November, he was arrested for a domestic violence incident involving his then-girlfriend. He ended up spending time in jail.

He was originally destined to play for Michigan State University, but that fell through. He was deemed untouchable by Big Ten athletic directors and he eventually ended up at Division II Ferris State University.

The good news is, Campbell, now a junior, is chalking up some print and it's for something postive.

In his first season as a starter this year, he led Ferris State to an undefeated regular season, was named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference player of the year, according to Peter Wallner of MLive:

The former touted national recruit from Detroit Cass Tech, had an eye-popping regular season. The Harlon Hill candidate leads all quarterbacks nationally in rushing yardage and is among the nation's leaders in passing efficiency, scoring and total offense.

Ferris State, the number two seed in Super Region Three, hosts sixth-seeded Northwest Missouri State on Saturday at Top Taggart Field in Big Rapids in the region semifinals.
