Republican John James, who ran an unsuccessful campaign to unseat Michigan's Democratic incumbent Sen. Debbie Stabenow, is being mentioned as a possible presidential nominee to replace Nikki Haley as United Nations ambassador.

Mutliple media outlets report that James is in the mix. Fortunately, the position requires Senate confirmation.

Before we go any further, let's look at his qualifications or lack thereof.

James is an Iraq War veteran who is president of the James Group International, a supply-chain management firm based in Detroit.

But that's where the qualifications end. He's had no poltical or diplomatic experience.

And his offensive campaign ads in the 2018 race should raise some red flags on the Hill were he to be nominated.

First off, a Virginia political action committee ran a radio ad on his behalf that suggested Stabenow was guilty of “black genocide” simply because she supports women’s reproductive rights. The ad wasn’t paid directly by his campaign, but even after black ministers raised objections, a shameful James, who is pro-life, kept silent.

Then in the waning moments of the campaign, he ran a TV ad that referred to the Democratic party as “godless,” though many people of faith -- Christians, Jews, Muslims, rabbis, pastors, imams and priests -- consider themselves Democrats.

Asking people with little morals to join the presidential team is anything but draining the swamp.

James needs to prove that he's not a loose cannon. He also needs to get experience in the diplomatic and polical circles. Running an offensive campaign doesn't qualify.

First name him ambassador to a country no one cares about to give him some experience.

Sorry, president, you don't start someone out as UN Abassador -- unless you really don't care about the UN and the world.
