Fox 2 just announced a death in the family: Jessica Starr, staff meteorologist since 2011, who apparently took her own life. The station's story is brief:
All of us here at Fox 2 are in deep shock and cannot believe that such a wonderful, bright and intelligent individual will no longer be with us. Her family and friends will be in our thoughts and prayers in the coming days as we all deal with our grief.
In a recent Facebook post, the 35-year-old alluded to health challenges related to Lasik surgery and described herself as "struggling" due to a long recovery.
♦ Year-end update: A memorial observance for family, friends and colleagues will be held at 11 a.m. Dec. 29 at Oak Pointe Church in Novi, with a live webcast at the station's website and Facebook page.
Starr was a southeast Michigan native, and a graduate of Michigan State University ('05) and Mississippi State University ('08). She was married and had a son and daughter in elementary school.
