Grosse Pointe Shores Police Pull Motorist From Lake St. Clair

December 27, 2018, 7:35 AM

Those who travel Lake Shore Road through the Grosse Pointes may wonder how the hell it happens, but it happens once or twice a year just the same: A motorist jumps a substantial curb and ends up in Lake St. Clair. It happened again this morning, the Detroit News reports.

OnStar reported a vehicle in the water at Lake Shore and Lochmoor in Grosse Pointe Shores around 5 a.m. today.

An officer was able to pull the man from the water. He's being treated at an area hospital. Police are still trying to pull the vehicle from the lake. The officer will be treated for "mild hypothermia" as well.

The water there is shallow, but also 34 degrees. WDIV reports that the driver had exited the car and was in the water when the Shores officer pulled him out. Video showed the car nearly entirely submerged.
