For nearly four months, since she lost an August primary for a state Senate seat, Michigan Rep. Bettie Cook Scott has stopped showing up to work in Lansing. But she continues to cash her paycheck.
Fox 2's M.L. Elrick, who first reported on her absence, now says the Detroit Democrat still drives to Lansing to submit mileage reimbursement requests.
"That is such a grifter move," Zach Gorchow, editor of the Gongwer News Service, which specializes in covering state government. "I've never heard of anything like that. That's amazing."
"Grifter move" is apt. So is another colorful expression: chutzpah.
