The debut is coming more than a year after it was planned. Nonetheless, it's coming.

General Motors Co. signed James Beard Award-winning chef Shawn McClain of Grosse Ile to open a restaurant and bar on the 71st and 72nd floors of the Renaissance Center to replace Coach Insignia, which closed in early 2017, Crain's Detroit Business reports. It will open at the end of this year.

The spot atop the RenCen is known for great views.

"The team from McClain Camarota Hospitality [of ] is partnered with us to launch a dynamic, multi-concept dining and social hub," Riverfront Holdings said in a statement. The hospitality firm, owned by the chef and West Michigan native Richard Camarota, owns three restaurants in Las Vegas.

McClain was named chef of the year by Esquire magazine in 2001 and won an "Iron Chef America" competition on the Food Network in 2012, according to his company's website. In 2006, he earned a Best Chef Midwest award from the James Beard Foundation.

He grew up in Cincinnati and has lived in Metro Detroit since 2011 with his wife, Holly McClain, a partner in their restaurants.

The culinary star graduated in 1990 from Kendall College's School of Culinary Arts in Evanston, Ill.
