Busted: The Detroiter Bar in Bricktown Loses License for 3 Weeks, Starting Thursday

January 20, 2019, 5:04 PM

The state frowns at alcohol sales to minors, as a popular downtown hang is reminded with costly consequences.

No taps will be pulled or bottles opened at the Detroiter Bar from this Thursday until Valentine's Day, a three-week liquor license suspension that spans -- ouch -- Super Bowl Sunday on Feb. 3.

The state cracks down on "a careless disregard of the law or deliberate actions."

The Bricktown business at 655 Beaubien St. served 19-year-old undercover decoys three times in 2016-18, the Michigan Liquor Control Commission says. Last June's third strike brings an automatic suspension.

"While identification was not requested in two of the incidents, ID was requested in the June 3, 2018 incident involving two decoy minors," according to a state news release. "The ensuing violation indicated either a careless disregard of the law or deliberate actions of the bartender."

The Detroiter just started a weekly game night with beer and booze discounts, plus prizes for winners of a Wii bowling tournament, a video game called Quiplash, Ultimate Pub Trivia and classic board games that include Battleship, Connect 4, Candy Land and -- no kidding -- Suspend.

The second event is Jan. 21 from 5 p.m. until last call, but round three has to wait until Feb. 18.
