Mark Hackel Questions Macomb Prosecutor's Use of Forfeiture Funds

If you're looking for some political intrigue and excitement in the dead of winter, look no further than Macomb County, the county that just keeps on giving in that way. 

The latest: Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel and Treasurer Larry Rocco are questioning whether thousands of dollars in forfeiture funds collected by the county prosecutor’s office were used for inappropriate expenditures, including donations to churches and charities, trips, parties and even a TV commercial, reports Mike Martindale of The Detroit News. 

Hackel and Rocco want the  Macomb County Board of Commissioners to conduct a forensic audit of Prosecutor Eric Smith’s forfeiture fund -- a move that would require approval by eight of the 13 commissioners, who are expected to take up the matter at a Feb. 20 finance committee meeting.

So far, there has been no response to that request, Hackel told the paper Friday.
