Warren Cop on Leave After Parents Say He Sexted Their Daughter

The 90-second TV news story is short and stark: "An officer with the Warren Police Department is under investigation for allegedly sending inappropriate text messages" to a teen girl, reports Brian Abel of WXYZ.

Police Commissioner Bill Dwyer confirms that one of his cops was placed on paid administrative leave Friday with pay, but declines to discuss the internal inquiry.

Abel, citing unnamed sources "with knowledge of the investigation," says in his broadcast segment:

Parents of a high school student came forward to the department after their daughter received unwelcome and inappropriate text messages of a sexual nature from the officer.

She reportedly had contacted him to ask about a law enforcement career. 

A department hearing reportedly is scheduled Wednesday to determine if the officer will face disciplinary action.
