The Other Anthony Neely: New Bing Spokesman Isn’t Taiwanese American Mandopop Singer

The Deadline Detroit Global Command Center received an urgent communiqué this morning from the office of Detroit Mayor Dave Bing: Anthony Neely has been hired as the mayor’s new press secretary.

Upon learning of Neely’s hire, several of our operatives began a rigorous background investigation—Google—into this new press secretary. What they discovered is this: Mayor Bing’s press secretary is not the same Anthony Neely who (according to Wikipedia) “participated in popular singing competition, One Million Star (Season 5) as a PK (Player Kill) challenger.”

The Mandopop star Anthony Neely is popular in Asia whereas Bing’s Anthony Neely “has past experience in the City of Detroit Communications Department, having served as Press Secretary under former Mayor Dennis Archer and as Deputy Press Secretary for Interim Mayor Kenneth Cockrel, Jr.,” according to the mayoral press release. Neely also worked as a GM speechwriter and as a Detroit Free Press reporter.
