We're often inundated with news of restaurant openings in downtown and Midtown Detroit.

At the same time, some of the restaurants that have been around for a while have quietly closed.

Small Plates at 1521 Broadway, across from the Detroit Opera House, has shut, reports Brenna Houck of Eater Detroit. Its lease ended Dec. 7.

Then there's the Drive Table Tennis Social Club inside the Penobscot Building at Griswold and Fort in downtown, which had a final party Jan. 27. Though it underwent a renovation in 2017, the place seldom looked busy. The bar hopes to relocate.

"Hard to believe 6 years have gone by. We’ve had great memories, but now we must move on to the next chapter in a new location," the business wrote on Facebook in late January.

Meanwhile, out in Ferndale, Treat Dreams on Woodward Avenue is temporarily closed for renovations as it joins with D’Vine Cookies. Treat Dreams Dessert Emporium will debut in the spring, Houck writes.
