Director Jordan Vogt-Roberts, the Royal Oak native behind movies like "Kong: Skull Island" and "The Kings of Summer," is planning his first movie set in the motor city.

And it's sure to be a big deal, as he's teaming up with actor Michael B. Jordan, who played Erik Killmonger in "Black Panther."

It will be a monster movie, Hollywood Reporter writes:

Plot details are being kept in the dark but the project, based on an original idea from Vogt-Roberts, will be set in the filmmaker’s hometown of Detroit. Vogt-Roberts maintains deep ties to the Motor City, repeatedly bringing production to it any way he can, and also co-founded the improv group The Detroit Creativity Project to help the city’s young people.

A search for a screenwriter is now underway.

Vogt-Roberts will direct and produce under his Outlier Society production company.

He offered a few more details on the setting to the Free Press:

"The film is set in Michigan and is more than a backdrop or a setting. In many ways it’s a character in the film and plays into the larger thematics," he said via e-mail.

Though its not yet clear where the movie will be filmed, the Freep reports Detroit could be a possibility. The city was a prospect for "Kong: Skull Island," which wound up being filmed in Vietnam.
