Sister Pie, Zingerman's named finalists for James Beard Awards

Detroit's Sister Pie and Ann Arbor's Zingerman's Roadhouse are one step closer to receiving national honors.

The food businesses were among nine locals named James Beard Foundation Award semifinalists last month. Sister Pie owner Lisa Ludwinski has advanced in the baker category and Zingerman's is up for an outstanding service award.

Zingerman's is competing against Brigtsen’s in New Orleans,Canlis in Seattle, Frasca Food and Wine in Boulder, Colo., Saison in San Francisco and Swan Oyster Depot in San Francisco.

Ludwinski is up against Zachary Golper of Bien Cuit in New York, Maura Kilpatrick of Sofra Bakery and Café in Cambridge, Mass., AveTime to find some sequins for later and some champagne for NOW!ry Ruzicka of Manresa Bread in Los Gatos, Calif., and Greg Wade of Publican Quality Bread in Chicago.

"Time to find some sequins for later and some champagne for now," Ludwinski posts Wednesday at Instagram with this photo.
