The ilitch group has a love of parking lots.
Now, the company wants to build a 700-space parking deck for its MotorCity Casino Hotel, which would be east of a parking deck on property bounded by Elm, Brooklyn, Temple and Trumbull, reports Kirk Pinho of Crain's Detroit Business.
The Detroit Planning Commission on Thursday is expected to discuss about rezoning that would pave the way for the deck.
The Ilitch family's Olympia Development of Michigan has been repeatedly criticized for razing sometimes historic buildings to make way for more surface parking lots around downtown Detroit. Plans for the family's District Detroit project over the last nearly five years have not materialized anywhere near the scale promised.
