Gallery: Peep into Jack White's Past Home, a Detroit Mansion for Sale at $1 Million+

April 02, 2019, 8:50 PM

This four-bedroom Indian Village listing has lots of flash and splash, most notably the "added cachet" that's in Curbed Detroit's headline and second sentence:

It belonged to White Stripes legend Jack White until 2007, and the White Stripes album "Get Behind Me Satan" was recorded on that grand staircase. How's that for a story to tell your guests?

And there's lots of stylish room for dinner and party guests in the 5,600-square-foot mansion on a double lot (an acre-plus) at 1731 Seminole St., between Kercheval Avenue and St. Paul Street. It's a block east of Parker Street and Sister Pie bakery.

White lived there from 2003-06 before moving to Nashville.

"Living like a rock star will take some serious cash," note Robin Runyan and Aaron Mondry of Curbed. Sotheby’s International Realty asks $1,114,000, down from $1.2 million last year.

The 1914 home was designed by C. Howard Crane, architect of the Fox Theater, Orchestra Hall, and Detroit Opera House.

The writers mention "hardwood floors, intricate plasterwork, a grand foyer, a bright sun room, a checkerboard floor in the kitchen, multiple fireplaces, four bedrooms—each with its own bath, and extra living space in the basement."

See for yourself in seven shots below from Sotheby's, which has 37 more here.
