The 18-foot snake on the roof, or just another Thursday in Detroit

April 19, 2019, 7:05 AM

Everybody knows Detroit -- or pretty much any city -- has pet owners who don't go in for the prosaic, predictable dogs, cats, bunnies or guinea pigs. And then one day there's an 18-foot reticulated python on an east-side garage roof, drawing a crowd.

Juliet, having an adventure.

Journalists are taught on their first day of work to always, always get the pet's name, so here it is: Juliet. Juliet the 18-foot python who, according to this hilarious WXYZ web version of its on-air story, "has been around humans her entire life" and "would never intentionally harm anyone." Her diet consists of "thawed rabbits," so just relax.

But she did get out of her . . . enclosure, or tank, or wherever she lives. She headed for the roof, her owner said, because there was a dog in the yard, and it probably scared her. Hear that, haters? The big scary snake was actually scared of the dog.

That owner, Devin Jones-White, assured all the onlookers that Juliet was a real peach, and he was able to collect her and get her back safe in her home, so all's well that ends well.

Thanks to onlooker Latonda Harvey for capturing it on Facebook video (language alert, but you'd probably drop a couple of bombs if you saw that, too):
