David Griem, a high profile attorney, was found in civil contempt of court on Friday.

The Detroit Free Press reports that Griem, the former attorney for Bob Bashara, was accused of improperly sharing evidence with Bashara's family and issuing unauthorized subpoenas.

Griem (pictured here)  entered a plea of civil contempt on Friday in 36th District Court before Chief Judge Kenneth King. Up until then, he had faced the possibility of criminal contempt. Grim is slated to return to court Nov. 26 when a judge could impose a fine.

Griem pleaded responsible to civil contempt, avoiding being held in criminal contempt.

Bashara, with another attorney, just pleaded guilty to hiring a hitman to try and kill Joseph Gentz. Gentz has confessed to killing Bashara's wife Jane at the request of Bashara.

Bashara has been a person of interest in the murder, but has yet to be charged.

Griem is due back in court Nov. 26 for a sanction hearing, where he could be subject to fines.

Neither Griem's attorneys nor an assistant Wayne County prosecutor would comment after the hearing.

Griem no longer represents Bashara, who pleaded guilty Thursday to a charge of solicitation to murder Joseph Gentz -- a handyman who told police he killed Jane Bashara at Bob Bashara's behest.

Jane Bashara was found strangled in her SUV in January in a Detroit alley.

After Bob Bashara was charged in the solicitation to murder case, Griem was accused of sharing evidence with Bashara's family, which prosecutors say violated a protective order.

Griem told 36th District Chief Judge Kenneth King that, as an attorney for more than 35 years, he takes his obligations seriously and is "embarrassed to be in this situation."

"I had notice of the protective order in this case, and I did in fact violate it," Griem said. "I did not intend to violate the order, but I did not pay attention to the details, and it was my obligation to do so."
