Eric Hipple, now 61, was a Detroit Lions quarterback in the 1980s.
Off the field, he's had to tackle some serious issues. His 15-year-old son Jeff committed suicide by shotgun in 2000. Hipple battled with depression and abused drugs and alchol and was convicted of drunk driving. He also ended up filing for bankruptcy.
Hipple talks in this four-minute newscast segment about this son's death with WDIV's Sandra Ali, including lessons he learned. He also goes around lecturing about warning signs parents can recognize.
