The aunt of the 9-year-old girl in Southwest Detroit who was fatally mauled by three pit bulls, tells WXYZ of the pain the death has caused.

“Such a beautiful child. Very happy. Very smart," says Claudia Stapleton. “We’re very devastated. It’s just a tragic way for her to pass.”

Emma Hernandez was riding her bike Monday near Central Avenue and Florida Street when the dogs attacked. Authorities will determine whether the animals will be put down.

The dogs' owner was arrested, and a warrant request is pending with the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office.

A GoFundMe page has raised more than $40,000 for the family.
