Kanye is getting a lot of attention today for his surprise free show at the Fox theatre, but don't sleep on Jeezy, who stopped in Detroit last month after dropping his new album to give free book bags to kids.

The Atlanta-based rapper was the main attraction at Councilmember Mary Sheffield's recurring Occupy the Corner event at a rec center in Virgina Park on Aug. 26. In addition to the giveaway, he promoted solidarity within the black community in response to a question about crime and violence.

"If you look around we all we got ... ain't nobody out here but us," the rapper told the crowd. "You gotta protect your brothers, you gotta protect your sisters you gotta protect your loved ones, because at the end of the day we can't go around here taking away from eachother's families and hurting eachother."
