Detroiters get their first chance this week to tell the mayor what they think of his planned layoffs and other strategies announced Friday to keep the city from tipping into bankruptcy.

Under the restructuring plan, 400 to 500 city employees (about 5 percent of the total) will be laid off early next year. That's one of many efforts to keep Detroit solvent.
