February 03, 2013, 7:46 AM

Detroit homicide detectives are trying to determine what happened in the parting lot of Martin Luther King Jr. Senior High on Friday night, when a 16-year-old was fatally shot and a companion was wounded.

Women's basketball coach Ernest Robinson, who reportedly says he shot the teens during an armed robbery attempt, was in custody Saturday night for questioning, WDIV and other media report. The coach isn't arrested.

The 70-year-old coach has a valid concealed pistol license, police told Lauren Abdel-Razzaq of The Detroit News.

Chauncey Glover of WDIV speaks with Priscilla Scott, whose son Michael Scott died after Friday night's game.

“I lost my son and I want answers,” said Scott.

"Michael does not even carry a gun, no. He wouldn't even touch a gun. Very much out of his character, it's not him."

The second student, 15, was listed in serious condition Saturday night at  Detroit Receiving Hospital, The News says it was told by Sgt. Eren Stephens of the Detroit Police Department.

Coach Robinson, who reportedly was walking two players to their car, is described by WDIV as a Detroit Police Department reserve officer.
