GM says Facebook ads are the Cadillac Cimarron of marketing

Featured_21_25_01_587_cimarron

Have you ever clicked on a Facebook ad?

Neither have I.

We aren't alone, apparently, because GM decided--the day before Facebook's IPO--to nix their $10 million Facebook ad buy.

The automaker says no one pays attention to ads on the social network. Well, no one paid attention to those awful pre-bankruptcy Howie Long Chevy ads, but with online metrics "no one" is a little easier to quantify on Facebook.

The automaker plans to continue using the site to post marketing content, talk to customers, and share funny cat videos through their brand pages and such, but they're done paying the social network for ad space.

Ok, seriously, three years ago who would have thought GM would be giving Facebook the whole "we're too good for you" blow-off? You know, instead of the other way around? Crazy. -- JTW
